The Rod and Gun Club currently has around 116 members. We offer a summer trap league, a pistol league and space for archery.  Our rifle range allows you to sight your rifle in from as far as 80 yards. Both the pistol and rifle range offer an excellent back drop for your targets. Panels are set up for the support of paper targets which is all that is approved by the club.

Through the club we have a number of Volunteer F.A.S. instructors who have been trained through the DNR. These members offer classes to youth and adults interested in earning their "Firearms Safety Certificate" that is required for all hunters born after January 1, 1980 and for anyone wishing to hunt out of state. Classes are offered in different areas and times. After the fall session of 2007, the club will have given more than 10,000 participants firearm safety lessons since the club’s inception in the early 1940s. Please call for a list of  names and numbers of those instructors. The times of the classes we be listed on the web site and also recorded on the voice message at 763-271-8104 when the classes are to begin. (Check the "Up-Coming Events" page)

We are actively involved with kids and the public in several other ways. The club sends kids age 12-16 to camp at the Long Lake Conservation Center each year and teaches firearm safety to youth or those who need it. The club also recently started a scholarship fund to provide money to Monticello High School graduating seniors.

This year, the club gave out two $500 scholarships. The club conducts a rotating sponsorship of various other clubs and organizations in addition to its scholarship activities. Previous recipients of the clubs donations have been Friends of the NRA, the Minnesota Waterfowl Association, the National Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

The club meets once a month on the last Thursday of each month. The meetings are open to the public, but those looking to become shooting members must pay a $75 annual fee. Those who pay take part in an orientation session can then shoot various guns on the range located at its site along County Road 75.
